The best source on-line for Florida drum and bass events is none other than FloridaDnB.com. FloridaDnB.com is the premier on-line community of bassheads in Florida. FloridaDnB.com is a free registration bulletin board featuring threads that promote the latest DnB shows throughout Florida. Thanks to my good friend Susan, for showing me the FloridaDnB light, I found about Makoto who will be playing at Laundry Bar in Miami on May 9.
Makoto is a drum and bass DJ based out of Tokyo, Japan. He is the touted as the Drum & Bass ambassador to Japan. He has released two major album, "Human Elements" and, his most recent, "Believe in My Soul". "Believe in My Soul" was released in 2007 and features jazz-infused liquid drum and bass beats with the get-off-your-ass-and-groove intensity. |

About 10 years ago, I was a college DJ with my own hour (and later two whole hours) of radio. For pre-Internet music sharing, this was a golden opportunity to expand my musical horizons. I do now as I did then have a broad taste for music, but it is still seldom do I find an unknown (to me) genre music that intrigues me to a near obsession. So it was 10 years ago that I discovered Jungle, more popularly known as drum and bass.
Not that I didn't like other types of electronica, jungle was the only sub-genre of electronica that didn't seem to require intoxication for enjoyment. I found a two disc drum and bass compilation at the radio station. I played a bunch of tracks off those CDs intertwined with rock, jazz, jam band, and R&B. I loved those CDs so much that I swiped them from the station. But of course karma comes around full circle and both CDs have been sacrificed to the ever growing where-did-that-go pile. My best friend thought that he had possession of them and I asked him several times. Unfortunately, they never came up. I am somewhat obsessed with finding the name to that 2 disc compilation. These days there seems to an endless supply of DnB mixes, shows, and podcasts to feed my musical fix. |
