While the audience waits impatiently for the final half-season of Battlestar Galactica, the cast and crew have already moved on... kind of. Makoto - Believe in My Soul [Good Looking Records] 2007The best source on-line for Florida drum and bass events is none other than FloridaDnB.com. FloridaDnB.com is the premier on-line community of bassheads in Florida. FloridaDnB.com is a free registration bulletin board featuring threads that promote the latest DnB shows throughout Florida. Thanks to my good friend Susan, for showing me the FloridaDnB light, I found about Makoto who will be playing at Laundry Bar in Miami on May 9.

Makoto is a drum and bass DJ based out of Tokyo, Japan. He is the touted as the Drum & Bass ambassador to Japan. He has released two major album, "Human Elements" and, his most recent, "Believe in My Soul". "Believe in My Soul" was released in 2007 and features jazz-infused liquid drum and bass beats with the get-off-your-ass-and-groove intensity.

The availability of Makoto's music (for purchase via download) is much to be desired. I could not find a single place to buy the album via download. CD and vinyl options are available, but I found few places that offered it, let alone have it in stock. Luckily, Makoto releases studio mixes via podcasts. Although he speaks in Japanese in most of his podcasts, the music is soulful and groovy. It's the type of stuff that I get addicted to listening to and become obsessed with it for months and years, like I did with the Dead (Skeletons from the Closet), Jane's Addiction (XXX and Ritual de la Habitual), 311 (Transistor and Grassroots), Sublime (40 oz to Freedom), Hashbrown (50' Doubledoor Boxcar), etc. After all those years they all have at least one thing in common. Those great artists have produced at least one album that I can listen through from beginning to end, over and over, again and again, year after year - you get my point.

I am ultra excited for his performance at Laundry Bar in Miami on May 9. Laundry Bar pulls into south Florida the best drum and bass talent for FREE! That's right, free, in Miami. Who could ask for more? Upcoming at Laundry Bar a week earlier is Concord Dawn of New Zealand. Wish I could see that one too. It is drum and bass month down at Laundry Bar with upcoming acts like Dieselboy (Planet of the Drums).

Keep your eyes open and feeling for the bass, good times to be had. Makoto, Circle K, and Electron-C, May 9, Laundry Bar, Miami, Florida.
