  • Domain registrars don't want you to renew your domains
This article expresses outrage against a blatant conflict of interests with regard to expiring domain names. If you build up a web site and don't renew your domain, your registrar has numerous ways to profit off this scenario. This outrageous and possibly illegal behavior is netting these crooks millions per year off of other people's hard work.

  • APOD - Phoenix and the Holy Cow
The northern Martian summer is waning. Vacations and Violence: a Sobering Insight from Google Trends
Written by Kenneth Hoyumpa
Friday, 22 August 2008

One of the the many tools Google possesses in its arsenal is Google Trends. An insightful tool that allows you compare search volume traffic among a set of search terms. I regularly use it to compare societal trends with keywords targeted by my SEO clients. Comparing single keywords produces the most interesting results because they have higher search volume, but insufficient data is often the case for two and three search term combinations.

In one of my wandering forays into Google Trends, I thought it would be useful to see my keywords against search volume for “economy.” The number of times people searched using economy seemed to be a barometer for societal and individual health. Under the assumption that people search for topics related to the economy more often when the economy is perceived to be not doing well, striking relations become apparent between the economy, drug use, alcohol, and violence.

Paris for President
Written by Kenneth Hoyumpa
Wednesday, 06 August 2008

Paris Hilton for President? Oh God, no!! Presidential campaign advisor? I bet there is a job opening up.

Live Funny or Die posted Paris Hilton's response to a McCain campaign ad which uses her image as a celebrity to compare his rival Democrat Sen. Barak Obama. Despite my initial skepticism in this video's worthiness, Paris left me in stitches. And above all the humor, a smart and insightful message was delivered.

Seems to me that McCain needs that celebrity power behind him and not knocking them. And while he's at it he should probably hold on to one of those tire gauges his campaign is giving away.

Cheers to your PR department, Paris. Helluva job!

Double Crossed: When Crosswords Go Bad
Written by Kenneth Hoyumpa
Tuesday, 29 July 2008

When I was growing up, my mother was a chronic crossword puzzler. She was the only one I knew until I moved away from the college that played the crossword. It was not until I worked atBennigan's did I even attempt a crossword.

During the mind-numbing hours of boredom between lunch and dinner shifts, a group of us would sit around and finish the crossword. Yeah, so what? It really did take a group of us to finish a crossword in the Sun Sentinel. But from then on, I had a certain fondness for crossword puzzles.

For the last few years, I play the easy crossword puzzle in the City Link. Yesterday I started the crossword, while I ate some dinner at the kava bar. I began the usual way of skimming through the clues and completing the ultra-easy ones.

It didn't take too long for me to notice that crossword wasn't quite right. The first three across clues were numbers 1, 5, and 10, but in the puzzle the first three across answers were numbered 1, 5, and 8. WTF?!?!

Bad, Crossword, Bad!
